About Commensurability of Diversity within and among Communities

چکیده

(1) Background: Is variation among the communities of a metacommunity higher than within communities? Community ecologists and population geneticists often characterize structure metacommunities by partitioning (diversity) into two following components using measures such as FST or GST α- β-diversity. The within-communities component is usually some average (type, species, genetic) diversities communities, among-communities additive multiplicative complement overall diversity. Such an lacks independent conceptual specification, matter long-standing dispute. Only if are independently commensurably specified can central question comparability be answered meaningfully. (2) Methods: A novel approach to overcoming this weakness identifies principles (concentration division) then relates these common notions distinguishes primary indicators quantify principles, transforms conceptually (indices) attains their commensurability thus comparability. application methods quantifying effects evolutionary mechanisms outlined. (3) Results: Common approaches corrected extended. (a) Analyses metacommunity/metapopulation structures that rely on apportionment related indices take its differentiation yield incomparable communities. (b) practice total diversity produces inconsistent ranking components. (c) concentration division result from elementary processes adaptive migration (gene flow) where (commensurable) amounts community reflect relative participation in structuring translate directly (d) modelling contributions restricted marginal distributions types affiliation. (e) model demonstrates degree which adaptational at level mixtures events

Diversity of Riparian Plants among and within Species Shapes River Communities

Organismal diversity among and within species may affect ecosystem function with effects transmitting across ecosystem boundaries. Whether recipient communities adjust their composition, in turn, to maximize their function in response to changes in donor composition at these two scales of diversity is unknown. We use small stream communities that rely on riparian subsidies as a model system. We...

The viriosphere, diversity, and genetic exchange within phage communities.

Natural phage communities are reservoirs of the greatest uncharacterized genetic diversity on Earth. Yet, identical phage sequences can be found in extremely different environments, which implies that there is wide circulation of viral genes among distantly related host populations. Further evidence of genetic exchange among phage and host communities is the presence in phage of genes coding fo...

Influence of environmental variability on phylogenetic diversity and trait diversity within Calligonum communities

Since phylogenetic data provide the evolutionary history of the species and traits are the result of adaptation to the environmental conditions, joint analysis of these two aspects and ecological data may illuminate that how ecological processes affect the evolution of species and assembly of communities. In this study, we compared the community structure of sibling communities in order to illu...

Assessment of genetic diversity among and within Iranian chamomile populations using semi random intron-exon splice junction (ISJ) markers

Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla), an important medicinal plant belonging to the Asteraceae family, has a wide distribution in Iran and other parts of the world. The medicinal and pharmacological effects of chamomile are mainly associated with its essential oil content and it is widely used in food, cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries. Despite its wide geographical distribution in Iran, lit...

heterogeneity within the orientalist discourse: representation of the orient in womens travelogues and mens paintings

from 1950s onward, new theories and critical approaches burgeoned across humanities. these theories were context-oriented; as a result, the analysis of discursive practices gained significance. thus, social, political, historical and cultural discourses that have been hitherto marginalized and considered inferior to literary texts, were introduced as important texts to be analyzed by critics. o...
